Ep.153 Flutes And Spirits
Published: February 27, 2022
The first guest we have joining us tonight is Ken from California and his UFO sighting in Saratoga back in 1998. Ken witnessed a large and unusual shaped object, moving silently overhead with no visible signs of propulsion. Then we head to the State of Michigan to speak to Ethan about a couple of his paranormal encounters, one from his home state and another in Ghana West Africa. While he was attending a traditional festival that involved a procession of participants that would be possessed by the spirits of their ancestors.

Left photo: Odwira festival procession, you’ll notice how the men walk behind the woman to be able to catch her if she falls because of the spirits possession of her body and how she is painted white.
Middle photo: Lake outside Kumasi, I also will attach a couple pictures of that lake that I was talking about, including one of a fisherman on his log boat. Unfortunately I didn’t have my camera with me when I heard and saw that shadow on the lake early in the morning but at least you and your audience can get a sense of what the area looked like.
Right photo: Fisherman on lake.
The Odwira festival is celebrated by the chiefs and peoples of Fanteakwa District in the Eastern region of Ghana. The Odwira Festival is celebrated by the people of Akropong-Akuapim, Aburi, Larteh and Mamfi. This is celebrated annually in the month of September and October. The festival celebrates a historic victory over the Ashanti in 1826.[1] This was the battle of Katamansu near Dodowa.
This was during the reign of the 19th Okuapimhene of Akropong, Nana Addo Dankwa from 1811 to 1835. It is a time of spiritual purification where the people are renewed and receive protection. It is also celebrated by the people of Jamestown in Accra. This is due to the associations formed through the intermarriages of the Ga and Akuapem people.
Customarily, the scheduling of the festival occur simultaneously with the reaping season when there is bumper food; during which gratitude is shown to the Ancestors by the people. Being a yam festival, thanksgiving for the bumper reap is principally demonstrated in the “giving food to the ancestors”.
