The encounter
Melissa returns to a quiet Sunday night in 1974, when she was eleven years old. After evening worship, her family drove a deserted section of the newly constructed Interstate 75 between Chattanooga and Knoxville. A massive disc-shaped craft, with a liquid-silver surface resembling mercury or pewter, appeared above their car and silently kept pace with them. The sight of fear on her father’s face made the encounter unforgettable.
