Ep.361 The Auchtertool Encounter
Published: 23 November 2025
Tonight we meet Nikola from Fife in Scotland. Her experiences began in childhood with strange out-of-body sensations, distorted perceptions, and a hand that grabbed her awake in her grandmother’s house. As she grew older, the activity continued, including a violent hair-pulling incident during a sleepover and a moment of spoken anger that seemed to echo forward into a real car crash. In the mid-1990s, she and her sister witnessed something that changed everything. A silent metallic sphere hovered in broad daylight over a field near their home in Auchtertool. It moved in ways that didn’t make sense. What happened next left a lasting mark on both sisters, and a terrifying feeling that something intelligent was behind it.
1. Early Childhood Sensations & Out-of-Body Events
Distorted body perception before sleep.
As a child, Nikola repeatedly felt that her face and mouth were “too big” or taking up the whole room. She described it as her skin feeling “wrong.”Out-of-body experience.
Lying in bed, she felt herself rise close to the ceiling and feared the “jaggy” 1980s artex texture would scrape her face.Flying dreams that felt real.
She dreamt of flying around her cul-de-sac, seeing details she shouldn’t have been able to see. She woke believing she might actually be able to fly.
2. The Hand on the Thigh
Physical touch in grandmother’s house.
Around age nine, in a bedroom she already found frightening, she woke to a hand gripping her upper thigh hard enough to shock her awake. The sensation was powerful, intentional, and left her terrified until daylight.
She never stayed overnight in that house again.
3. Violent Hair-Pulling Incident
Wardrobe doors slamming.
During a sleepover, two wardrobe doors beside her and her friend slammed shut simultaneously with force.Later that night:
As she slept at the foot of the bed near the wardrobe, something ripped out a lock of her hair, leaving visible hair on the pillow. This event affected her into adulthood, causing her to sleep with her hair tucked away for decades.
4. The “Cursed” Car Crash
After a tense encounter with an ex-boyfriend who drove away, she muttered, “I hope he crashes that car.”
Minutes later, ambulances raced past.
The ex and his friends had crashed at a dangerous bend.
One passenger was badly injured and left permanently affected.
Nikola has carried guilt and now avoids speaking curses or angry thoughts aloud.
5. Major Daylight UFO Encounter (1996)
One of her most life-changing experiences.
Setting
A sunny afternoon in the village of Auchtertool. She and her sister were walking their boxer dog across the field behind their home.
Object Description
A sphere the size of a car
Shiny, reflective, metallic, like mercury
Seemingly fluid or iridescent
Completely silent
Capable of instantaneous movement
Behavior
Hovered over the far rise of the field above a stand of trees.
The dog — normally wild and energetic — became hysterical, then turned and bolted home, which was highly unusual.
The moment Nikola noticed the sphere, it jumped closer instantly without any visible movement or sound.
She felt a deep sense of danger and grabbed her sister’s arm.
They ran home without looking back.
Nikola believes the object was aware of being observed. The event shaped her worldview and sparked lifelong interest in UFO phenomena.
6. Bedroom Light Event – Possible Follow-Up to UFO Encounter
About a month later:
She and her sister woke to intense rhythmic white-blue light filling their bedroom.
Light was bright enough to illuminate the entire room through closed blinds and curtains.
The flashes followed a steady dim–bright–dim cycle.
Her sister was panicking, begging to get into her bed.
Nikola repeated “This isn’t happening” while hiding under the covers.
Her sister fled the room; the radio suddenly blasted on.
Their father ran in demanding to know what was going on.
The light stopped instantly.
Father blamed “boys in the village with a strobe light,” which the sisters rejected as impossible.
7. Long-Term Paranormal Activity in Multiple Homes
Recurring dreams tied to sites on the Raith Estate
Repeated dream of a chapel and a presence trying to pull her outside.
Years later, she moved into a cottage on that very estate where new activity began.
Childhood and adult experiences there:
Overwhelming coldness in the cottage.
Stories tied to the land:
A wizard who foresaw his own death
A man hanged from a nearby tree
Her daughter saw a woman in an apron “go through the wall.”
Her daughter also played with what she thought was her father pushing a toy buggy — later realized she’d been playing with something else.
Her son saw a legless man with red spiky hair, blue velvet coat, and a scribbled-out face.
Her son also described seeing a dark version of himself running in a mirror that didn’t exist.
Persistent tapping in Nikola’s bedroom that moved around the room, finishing beside her.
A terrifying episode where she tried to say “In the name of Jesus Christ…” but her speech slowed, and a voice answered, “You left it too late that time.”
Strange mechanical “cricket” noises outside her window at night.
Phone-in-the-wardrobe incident
While leaning into her wardrobe, she heard a phone ringtone loudly behind her inside the wardrobe, despite both real phones being across the room.
Her partner heard it too.
After moving to a new home
Kinder energy overall
A friendly female voice saying “Hello”
A rolled-up piece of paper moved on its own in front of her and her partner.
8. Daughter’s Recent Activity
At her father’s flat:
Heard crashes in the kitchen while alone.
Later watched five clothing hangers lift off the curtain rail and drop to the floor simultaneously.
Required cleansing and grounding practices afterward.
9. Grandfather’s Deathbed Visit
While sleeping, Nikola felt someone touch her right arm.
She saw her grandfather leaning over her saying, “That’s me away then, hen.”
She immediately woke, saw the time (~2:15 AM), and told her husband she had to share this before they heard anything.
Hours later, the phone rang.
Her grandfather had passed away around the time of her experience.
This moment cemented her belief in afterlife contact.
10. Sister’s Encounter with a Chasing Stone
As a child, Nikola’s sister ran home hysterical claiming a stone was following her, speeding up each time she looked back.
A doctor examined her and could find no medical cause.
Nikola connects this event with Scottish folklore and fae activity.

Michael “the Wizard” Scott of Balwearie, Knight (1255 – 1304)
Michael Scott was a medieval Scottish scholar, translator, mathematician, and astrologer from Balwearie in Fife. He studied across Europe, including Oxford and Paris, and later served at the court of Frederick II in Sicily, where he translated major scientific works from Arabic into Latin.
His deep involvement in astronomy, alchemy, medicine, and natural philosophy earned him a reputation far beyond normal scholarship, and over time he became known in folklore as a “wizard.” Stories claimed he could command spirits, split mountains, and control the wind, though these legends grew long after his death.
The Sauchie Poltergeist Case
The Sauchie Poltergeist case took place in 1960 in the village of Sauchie in Scotland. The focus was an eleven-year-old girl named Virginia Campbell, who had recently moved from Ireland. Soon after she arrived, strange knocks began inside the house. At first the family thought it might be plumbing or the settling of an old building, but the noises kept happening and always seemed to come from wherever Virginia was sitting or sleeping.
The activity grew quickly. Furniture shifted slightly without anyone touching it and blankets were tugged off Virginia during the night. The family was frightened and reached out to their local church for help.
The most surprising moments happened at school. Virginia’s teachers and classmates heard loud taps coming from her desk even while she sat completely still. The teacher even held her hands, yet the sounds continued. Several adults tried to catch her making the noise, but the tapping kept happening in full view of everyone.
Clergy and investigators came to observe what was going on. Some thought it was a prank, but many left feeling shaken because the knocks and movements happened right in front of them. The events seemed to intensify whenever Virginia felt upset or exhausted, which led some researchers to believe the activity was rooted in emotional stress rather than a haunting in the traditional sense.
Over time the disturbances faded as Virginia settled into her new life. Even so, the Sauchie case is still talked about because so many teachers, neighbors, and church officials witnessed something they could not explain. It remains one of Scotland’s most puzzling and well-documented poltergeist stories.
